ABOUT THE
AUTHORS
JORDAN HENDLER
Jordan Hendler
was born in Pasco, WA, a desert suburban area on the
Columbia River Gorge, just south of the Hanford Nuclear
Reservation. Being a rural community, it fostered the love
of riding at an early age. By nine years old, her
step-father purchased her a retired roping horse named Opal,
who had a broken hip as a youngster, but still carted the
kids around the roping arena like a pro. A short few years
later, Jordan was halter training youngsters and started a
young horse of her own.
Currently, Jordan is navigating the elegant art of riding
dressage, aboard Madison Avenue a young Dutch Warmblood /
Thoroughbred mare. Also, in the spring of 2008, her mare
"Pea" gave birth to a healthy Swedish Warmblood filly named
Annika who shows much promise as an upcoming mount.
As an author, she hopes that this book will give much-needed
support to riding programs of all disciplines. It was in the
early stages of training that she realized, in order to
reach her goals, she would need a resource to keep track of
the training elements and future progress of her riding.
Without a good solution in the equestrian marketplace, she
decided to construct one of her own. The Equestrian Lesson
Plan, many years in the making, is her solution to that
need.
MICHELE REESE
Michele Reese was born in Mt. Holly, NJ and was in love
with horses before she could walk. She got her first pony at
age 2, because her parents thought it would be cute (they
now regret that decision). He was a shaggy paint pony named
Sugar and was the beginning of the love affair that so many
of us are familiar with.
In the beginning, she rode at a local reining barn, and
she cleaned stalls so she could get extra lessons. On show
days she would be up by 4am and walk across the dew covered
fields to the barn. She was the first one there and usually
the last one to leave.
As much fun as she had riding reining horses, she had
seen something else she longed to try at some of the horse
shows she attended. She wanted to jump. After much begging,
her parents finally gave in and took her to another trainer
to learn to jump. Dawn Forester started her journey, and
eventually Bob Allen took over.
Michele began teaching and training at age 19. She was
certified as a riding instructor through the American Riding
Instructor Program at age 21. As an instructor she kept a
notebook on her students, detailing the horse they rode,
what they did in the lessons and what they needed to work
on. She would then write an appropriate lesson plan for the
next lesson for each student. Now retired from teaching and
training, she is now a student and finds that the notes that
she kept on her students helped her to remember what she had
learned and gives her some ideas to focus on each time she
rides.
